MEET FRED MELIN

Fred Melin started trying cases forty-five years ago. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force in Indiana and California he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law. He began the practice of law with trial law firms in Chicago and Madison County, Illinois. In 1985 he left the Midwest for Tampa, trying cases there and throughout the state of Florida. Since 1995 he has lived and practiced in Sarasota.
Fred’s wide range of legal experience includes litigating restrictive covenants, construction contracts, antitrust and trade regulation, and personal injuries including medical malpractice, products liability injuries, workplace accidents, watercraft injuries, railroad accidents, school injuries, premises liability, and automobile cases. He effectively calls upon all that experience in representing personal injury clients of Shapiro | Delgado.
James practices in the areas of complex medical malpractice and personal injury law/wrongful death. He is fortunate to have a Medical Doctor, who co-counsels all of the medical malpractice cases for the firm. He is admitted to practice law in Florida and the US Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
James has been actively involved with the Manatee County Bar Association (MCBA) and Legal Aid of Manasota. He was the past president (2017) and current board member of the Young Lawyers Division. He has won the Pro Bono Services Award from the Legal Aid of Manasota for providing free legal services to the survivors of domestic violence.
